Greetings :

Viewing trouble?  Please click the "View Online" link above.

Well, we're not getting any rain just yet but we are getting some great weather for riding.

With the bar getting higher and higher for lower and lower weights for road and off-road bikes, it's starting to get pretty silly. The last I heard you could actually buy road bikes that weigh in under 10-lbs--that's amazing!

Sure, they cost more than a mid-range sports car, but if you're into climbing and want to bag some Strava KOM's or low-key hillclimb victories, shaving a pound or four off your rig is one way to do it. Most riders know that a lighter bike translates to less power output and better performance on hilly routes or course. Yea, you can do the same by shaving pounds off your body or just getting more fit, but if you were to do both, you'd see some amazing results.

To be sure, not too many of your riding buddies have one of these sub 11-lb bikes just yet, but they are coming. Today, the typical top-shelf production bike comes in around 13 to 14-lbs. A top shelf road rig from just five years ago would typically weigh in around 16-lbs. My best road bike weighs about 16-lbs and I ride with guys who have 14-lb bikes. Does it make a difference, you bet it does!

Over a longer more hilly ride, say over 50-miles, a rider with a one or two pound advantage is going to put the hurt on you. Of course, this assumes all other things are fairly equal between the two riders. If your ride buddy with low cash flow and superlight bike weighs 50-lbs more than you, you probably don't have to worry too much.

I can't help you out with the superlight frameset but I can certainly get the superlight group components for you. If you want a 13-14 lb rig, I can still sell top-end Jamis framesets or complete bikes, which come in well below 14 lbs out of the box

The shots here certainly indicate the fall season of riding. Beautiful and very pleasant temps in our area. Cyclocross racing going on but mostly just relaxing fitness or fun rides until the much needed wet stuff arrives. Let's hope it rains every other week and only on Wednesday.

Velocity USA
is still "wheeling & dealing" with some nice pricing on wheels, rims, and accessories this summer and fall and are now promising to ship custom-built wheels withing two to three days. Very aggressive pricing available to my customers on their Road Standard, A23, Touring Standard, and Standard Disc wheelsets. Oh, and also the Blunt 35 All-Mountain wheelsets.

Actually, great deals on any Velocity wheelset, rim, hub, or accessory you need. All Velocity wheels are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for the life of the product. All newer hub systems upgradeable to 11-Speed.

Hawk Racing Wheel Deals
Hawk is blowing out most versions of their 2015 full carbon tubulars while supplies last. If you're looking to go faster in cross or road in 2016 these are the ticket. Special pricing for qualified customers on 38, 50, and 85mm Stratus X sets at $895 including shipping.

Velocity-USA has been shipping a new disc-based road wheelset called the Aileron. Yea, I know, it's expensive to go discs since you need a frame and fork that supports it. However, those of you looking to build a new bike or have a disc-ready frame and/or fork, these wheels are the ticket. Priced at under $1K retail ($795 for Comp version) and sporting a stiff and wide 25mm alloy rim with Sapim CX-Ray spokes and alloy nipples.

At just under 1600g for the set, they are a great choice for an all-arounder wheelset with awesome durability even for the monster riders out there.

Of course, your typical discount applies to the retail prices on both models of wheels. I can also build a custom set for you using the Aileron rim or any other rim compatible with the disc hubs. I think my next project just might be a disc-based road rig. Keep in mind, this type of road rig is actually a ready-to go cyclocross or trekking bike by just swapping tires and maybe cassettes.

I can usually get just about anything. If you need things quickly, just mention the specifics. I can get most things in my hands overnight, next-day, or two-day, it just costs more for shipping.
